Sunday October 5, 2008 Jay-Z held a free concert sponsored by the Obama Democratic Party, Campaign for Change. The purpose of the show was to increase voter registrations before the due date just in time for this years November election. It was open to Florida residents 18 and up all you had to do was go the Obama office and register and recieve 2 tickets. The concert was held in Bayside at the Bayfront Park Ampitheater, which is now owned by Live Nation, a company Jay-Z has a lucrative deal with. The weather was bad all weekend with heavy downpours but skies were clear just in time for the show to begin in the outdoor venue. The best seats in the house were reserved for the Obama campaign volunteers. The show started at 8 pm with Wyclef Jean opening. Wyclef did his biggest hits with an appearance by Pitbull, then encouraged the crowd to vote for Obama and support fair laws for haitians. He closed his set playing the "Star Spangled Banner" Jimi Hendrix style on his guitar.
Jay-Z performed next doing his big hits from old to new songs. He began with a performance featuring Memphis Bleek. He spoke to the crowd and stated he is a private citizen and can say what he wants. He made some not so subtle references to the current president, during the "Blue Magic" performance Bush flashed across the screen while the crowd boo'ed. He also did an acapella version of "Minority Report". Just before the "99 Problems" song he made reference to Sarah Palin which made the crowd laugh. Leave it to Jay-Z to get people to come together and get registered to vote in exchange for a good time.
