A LESSON IN REAL STYLE

The biggest celebrities as well as up and coming celebs know that to make an impression in the eyes of the press and their peers they need to be fashionably dressed every time they step outside. Some celebrities have great personal style and some need help. This is where the fashion stylist or image consultant comes into play. The better your stylist, the more press you receive. Some examples are Nicole Ritchie, Kanye West, Beyonce, Angelina Jolie and more. Nicole hired a stylist and it instantly turned her into a trendsetter where as before she wasn't known for her style. Kanye West style went from preppy to progressive streetwear when he hired his current stylist. These celebrities have someone that picks their clothes and makes them look fashion forward at all times. This causes them to receive more press, they get scouted for spokesman jobs, and they get paid contracts or free product if they continue to wear the same designer. Awards shows are the best example, the outfits worn by the celebs give the fashion industry millions of dollars in free advertising for the designer labels they wear. Brands that were always cool to wear are given to a celebrity in the award show gift bag, and then they receive a great deal of press for wearing it as if they choose to wear and buy it themselves. That being said, fans tend to follow the celebrity fashion style when it’s the work of the stylist. So let’s give credit where credit is due. The celebrity face chosen as the spokesperson may sell more clothes, but the clothing lines were most likely created with or completely by the fashion stylist they employ. The stylist may even choose what fashion lines and products the celebrity endorses.

Being a stylist is not as easy as it seems. The job requires some formal training such as a fashion degree of some type, countless hours of research and study of fashion design, history, and cultures from around the globe. All this information and store contacts must be cataloged for reference at a moments notice. When dressing a client you have to spend many hours working with them to create their image. With a celebrity it is even more difficult since it requires finding unreleased items and unlimited combinations of clothing since they can't really wear the same thing twice.

Have we ever noticed his style before? I doubt it. He normally wears a white t-shirt, basic jeans and some trendy sneakers. As far as a brand, it's usually Adidas. It's widely known here in Miami that when a celebrity comes into your store you sell them the complete look so they are red carpet ready. (He does live and shop in Miami). This makes the store employees the fashion stylist for that outfit. So that being said, he and others received the Supra shoes as gifts to wear which gained great, well deserved press for a skate brand that was always cool. Hopefully he uses a stylist more often and develops a unique look to wear during the peak of his career. Those who follow celebrity style and copy it need to dig a little deeper to see how they really got the look. Then you really will be fashion forward if you wear it before the celebrity does and then it will be you giving them a lesson in style.
